Dave Bakker – Dioramas

This work has its roots in dioramas and shadow boxes. Dollhouses have long been a traditional folk art whose primary appeal, I believe, is voyeuristic in nature. I attempt to enhance this by creating a dramatic narrative within the miniature space. Viewing one of these dioramas is an intimate experience both physically and spiritually for the voyeur-viewer. These are narratives of an inner world, stories about original knowledge. Not original as in new but original in the sense of being of the origins, knowledge which is so old language cannot express it.
