Dr. Bob Hieronimus
Founding Fathers Artcar (1983 Mercedes SD)

The theme of the "Founding Fathers Artcar" is the same
as that of artist Dr. Bob Hieronimus's new book: the Founding Fathers and
the lesser-known influences on them as read through our nation's symbols of
flags and great seals. Painted by hand by Dr. Bob Hieronimus in just under 3
months, the symbols reveal that our founders had a much grander ideal in
mind with their Great Experiment than what we have realized. Especially
emphasized is the League of the Iroquois Indians who had a form of
republican democracy almost 400 years before Columbus. Their chiefs advised
Ben Franklin and others to “Join or Die”. Studying our founders’ intentions
for America as seen through their symbols can help us get back on track from
those who’ve turned America into a nation of fear

The passenger side of the car shows how the League of the Iroquois Indians
are one of the hidden layers behind the evolution of our national identity.
We see the Union Jack evolving through the various stages of the American
Flag topped by the names of the Indian tribes. The driver's side is a
tribute to the reverse of the Great Seal of the United States. "Novus Ordo
Seclorum" means "New Order of the Ages," referring to the new era of
democracy the founders believed they were starting. "Annuit Coeptis" means
"He (God) Favors Our Undertaking". The pastel colors balance the passenger
side's bold, primary colors, much like the feminine balances the masculine,
or spirit balances matter.
